MINISTER NDEJEMBI URGES PBPA TO ENSURE ADEQUATE FUEL STOCKS IN THE COUNTRY.

📌 Calls for improved fuel-receiving infrastructure

📌 Emphasizes the need to avoid delays in fuel importation

📌 Directs enhanced stakeholder engagement in investing in fuel storage infrastructure

The Minister for Energy, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi, has directed the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) to ensure the country maintains adequate fuel reserves to guarantee the continuity of production, transportation, and other essential services that rely heavily on this form of energy.

Hon. Ndejembi issued the directive on November 25, 2025, in Dar es Salaam during his visit to the PBPA offices, as part of his ongoing tour to engage with leaders of institutions under the Ministry of Energy.

He instructed PBPA to ensure the nation’s fuel stock levels remain sufficient, noting that this would help prevent sudden shortages that could lead to increased costs for citizens and the private sector, as well as disruptions in service delivery.

“Having sufficient fuel reserves through investment in storage facilities creates economic stability for the nation. When there is certainty of fuel availability, production, transportation, and trade activities continue without interruptions. This enhances investor confidence, reduces emergency costs, and ultimately contributes to sustainable economic growth,” emphasized Hon. Ndejembi.

The Minister further urged PBPA leadership to increase investment in strengthening the infrastructure for receiving and storing fuel to enhance the safety and quality of petroleum products for the broader national interest.

Additionally, Hon. Ndejembi emphasized the importance of PBPA collaborating with private-sector stakeholders across the fuel supply chain to ensure the availability of storage facilities, thereby eliminating delays or unexpected shortages in fuel supply.

Earlier, while presenting the agency's performance report, PBPA Chief Executive Officer Mr. Erasto Simon noted that to enhance operational efficiency, PBPA is preparing to integrate systems that will enable uniform pricing across all ports, thus improving fuel distribution efficiency.

During the visit, Hon. Ndejembi was accompanied by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Eng. Felchesmi Mramba, along with other technical experts from the ministry.
