Gold sales in Morogoro Region have reached TZS 16.51 billion between July 2023 and September 2025, reflecting the rapid growth of the mining sector and its contribution to the regional economy.

Government revenue from the sector has also continued to rise—from TZS 2.67 billion in 2021/2022 to TZS 4.9 billion in 2023/2024—while Morogoro projects to collect TZS 6.5 billion in the 2025/2026 financial year.

The Morogoro Regional Mining Office oversees mining activities in the districts of Gairo, Kilosa, Mvomero, and Morogoro.

Speaking in a recent special interview, the Morogoro Regional Mining Officer, Zabibu Napacho, said the region is blessed with a wide variety of minerals including Feldspar, Rhodolite Amethyst, Green Garnet, Gold, Kaolin, Copper, Ruby, Spinel, Marble, Graphite, REE, and Quartz.

She explained that a total of 2,413 small-scale mining licenses have been issued, along with 205 medium-scale mining licenses. Large-scale mining licenses stand at 10, while large-scale exploration licenses are 61—an effort aimed at strengthening mining activities and attracting more investment into the region.

In the private sector, the Manager of Yusra A. Yusuph Mine, Isack Mushi, said the mine produces Dolomitic Marble used for making tiles, paint, and other products, while also contributing to community development.

He noted that the mine has built a village office worth TZS 28 million, purchased an office plot for TZS 4 million, connected electricity, improved roads, drilled a borehole, and provided 65 jobs.

Meanwhile, the Director of Mangiolin Gems Limited, Shamaina Bashir, said her company focuses on gemstones and value addition while creating employment opportunities for women and youth to empower them economically and support their return to school through goal-based savings accounts.

“Since starting in July 2024, ten youths have returned to school and another ten are preparing to advance their studies next year,” she said.

Bashir emphasized that the company’s mission is to make Morogoro’s mining sector a reliable source of revenue and a catalyst for social and economic development.
