The Mara Region has set a new record in mineral production after extracting 67.41 tonnes of gold valued at TZS 8.881 trillion over a four-year period, from 2021 to October 2025.

Speaking on behalf of the Regional Mining Officer for Mara, Environmental Officer Byalugaba Chakupewa recently stated that the sale of this gold has contributed more than TZS 605.86 billion to government revenue through royalties, inspection fees, and various levies.

Additionally, Chakupewa noted that the government, through the Mining Commission in the Mara Region, collected TZS 78.7 billion in the first quarter of the year—equivalent to 37.48% of the annual target of TZS 210.3 billion.

According to him, the office also issued 2,478 mining-related licenses, a move that has helped increase employment opportunities, stimulate investment, and boost local government revenue.

He emphasized that these achievements stem from strong sector oversight and a conducive investment environment established by the Sixth-Phase Government under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, which has positioned the Mara Region among the leading mineral-producing areas in the country.
