DC LONGIDO RESOLVES WATER DISPUTE IN ENGASURAI.
By Our Reporter, Longido
The District Commissioner of Longido, Hon. Salum Kalli, on November 14, 2025, resolved a long-standing water dispute between residents of Engasurai Hamlet in Kiserian Village, Engikaret Ward, and the leadership of the Methodist Church of Tanzania, which constructed a well that supplies water in the area.
The dispute arose after residents disagreed with the church’s leadership over the water price, which had been set at 200 shillings per bucket for domestic and livestock use.
Addressing the residents, Hon. Kalli said that after holding discussions with village leaders and officials of the Methodist Church of Tanzania, a new agreement was reached whereby the water will now be sold at 100 shillings per bucket.
For livestock, each animal will drink water at a flat rate of 100 shillings regardless of the amount of water it consumes.
“Our colleagues invested their resources to build this well; they use electricity and buy diesel fuel to keep it running. We want the service to continue benefiting you,” said Hon. Kalli.
He explained that the funds collected from water sales will help sustain the project, including the purchase of diesel used to operate the pumps that draw water from the well to the storage tanks.
Hon. Kalli also urged residents to prioritize dialogue when resolving conflicts to maintain peace within the community.
In addition, he revealed that the government has allocated 600 million shillings to upgrade the Kiserian Village Well in order to address water shortages.
For his part, the Engikaret Ward Councillor, Mathayo Ndaiya, thanked Hon. Kalli for resolving the dispute and urged residents to use the water responsibly.
The Chairman of Kiserian Village, Ndete Lengei Laizer, called on residents to abide by the newly reached agreement.
In another development, Hon. Kalli visited the Kiserian Market auction and greeted residents.
