COMMISSION EMPHASIZES LOCAL CONTENT EDUCATION AND CSR IMPLEMENTATION
Mining Jobs Reach 19,874, Tanzanians Account for 97.5% of the Workforce
DODOMA
The Executive Secretary of the Mining Commission, Engineer Ramadhani Lwamo, has called on Coordinators of Local Content and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the regions to intensify efforts to educate the public to ensure that Tanzanians fully benefit from the country’s mineral resources.
Speaking today, November 20, 2025, in Dodoma while opening training sessions for the coordinators, Engineer Lwamo said it is crucial to closely oversee the Regulations on the Participation of Tanzanians in the Mining Sector (Local Content) as well as the Responsibilities of License Holders to Communities (CSR) to achieve the Government’s goal of enabling Tanzanians to effectively participate in the mining economy and other related sectors.
“Public education is a key pillar in enabling people to take advantage of employment and business opportunities in mining, especially after the Commission released a list of goods and services that must be supplied by companies wholly owned by Tanzanians,” said Engineer Lwamo.
He also urged the coordinators to serve as a strong link between the Headquarters of the Mining Commission and the Offices of Regional Resident Mining Officers to ensure proper implementation and oversight of Local Content and CSR.
Engineer Lwamo added that the mining sector continues to grow rapidly, with its contribution to the National GDP reaching 10%, as outlined in the National Development Vision 2025.
For her part, the Acting Director of Mining Inspection and Trade, Annasia Kwayu, said the Commission will continue to firmly oversee the participation of Tanzanians in all areas of the sector, including employment and procurement in mines.
She revealed that the sector has so far generated a total of 19,874 jobs, of which 97.5% are Tanzanians and only 2.5% are foreigners.
Regarding procurement, Kwayu stated that in 2024 mines purchased goods and services worth USD 2.03 billion, with Tanzanian companies contributing USD 1.79 billion, equivalent to 88% of all procurement — a clear indicator of success in Local Content implementation.
