In celebration of Customer Service Week, the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has introduced a special program that enables new customers to be connected to electricity within one day — a move aimed at bringing services closer to the people.
Speaking at the event held at Mwembe Yanga grounds in Dar es Salaam, Ms. Gowelle stated that TANESCO has launched the “TANESCO Mtaani Kwako” (TANESCO in Your Neighborhood) program to serve residents of Dar es Salaam Region. She explained that key staff from various departments of the company have set up a service camp at the venue for three days, starting today, October 8, to provide direct services to citizens.
She further revealed that on Thursday, TANESCO will officially launch a special initiative to connect new customers to electricity and offer them electric stoves on credit. Customers who choose to use electricity for cooking will be allowed to pay gradually through their prepaid electricity purchases under a six-month to one-year contract.
The initiative is part of the company’s project supported by the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) program, which has funded 1,000 new electric stoves for the pilot phase.
“TANESCO decided to celebrate Customer Service Week by bringing services closer to the people. Through the ‘TANESCO Mtaani Kwako’ program, we are offering an opportunity for Dar es Salaam residents to receive information and various services related to TANESCO,” emphasized Ms. Gowelle.
She added that visitors will have the chance to witness demonstrations on how to prepare different types of food using energy-efficient electric stoves, as well as receive education on proper electricity use, safety, infrastructure protection, and the ongoing meter inspection operations.
Ms. Gowelle also invited the public to attend the official launch scheduled for October 9, 2025, at Mwembe Yanga grounds in Dar es Salaam, where the Guest of Honor will be Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Hon. Albert Chalamila.
The celebrations are being held under the theme: “The Plan is Possible,” highlighting TANESCO’s achievements and its commitment to providing fast, efficient, and innovative services to Tanzanians.
