RC CHALAMILA LAUNCHES THE “CONNECT ELECTRICITY, COOK WITH ELECTRICITY” PROGRAM
The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Hon. Albert Chalamila, today, October 9, 2025, officially launched the “Connect Electricity, Cook with Electricity” program developed by TANESCO at Mwembe Yanga grounds in Temeke District.
The “Connect Electricity, Cook with Electricity” program is an affordable and highly efficient initiative that uses significantly less electricity compared to other energy sources.
RC Chalamila commended the Ministry of Energy, TANESCO, and all development partners for introducing this innovative idea aimed at expanding access to clean cooking energy among Tanzanians.
“This initiative marks the beginning of a new era in the history of electricity services in our country, supporting the efforts of Her Excellency President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan in promoting the use of clean energy,” he stated.
By promoting the use of clean electric cooking energy, the program is expected to elevate the standard of living for Tanzanian communities.
RC Chalamila further emphasized that electricity is an essential component not only for the country’s economic growth but also for the development of individuals.
Meanwhile, TANESCO’s Managing Director, Mr. Lazaro Twange, explained that through the Ministry of Energy, Tanzania has officially launched the National Energy Compact, which aims to connect 8.5 million customers by 2030—equivalent to about 1.7 million new connections each year. He added that the launch of the “Connect Electricity, Cook with Electricity” program has come at the right time.
Additionally, he said the program allows new customers to receive an electric cooker when connected to electricity and to pay for it gradually through the token system. This arrangement will enable many families to cook efficiently and affordably.
In conclusion, RC Chalamila distributed clean electric cookstoves to various residents and urged them to become ambassadors of clean energy within their communities.
