Shinyanga, Tanzania

The Government of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Energy, has expressed satisfaction with the pace of implementation of the national solar power generation project (150MW) in Kishapu District, Shinyanga Region, which has now reached 80.4% completion.

After inspecting the progress of the project, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, said the government is pleased with the contractor’s performance, noting that the project is part of both national and international goals to ensure access to sustainable energy.

Engineer Mramba explained that the 150-megawatt project is being implemented in two phases at a total cost of TSh 323 billion. He said the first phase, which will produce 50 megawatts, is expected to be completed by December 2025, with Sinohydro Company from China serving as the main contractor.

“This project is part of the Government’s efforts under the leadership of Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, who continues to ensure that all Tanzanians have access to clean, safe, and affordable energy,” emphasized Engineer Mramba.

He added that the completion of the Kishapu solar power project will strengthen electricity availability in both urban and rural areas and reduce dependence on non–environmentally friendly energy sources.

For his part, Project Supervisor Engineer Emmanuel Anderson said that construction progress is satisfactory and that the project is on track to be completed within the planned timeframe.

Meanwhile, Sinohydro Project Manager, Engineer Daniel Xu, affirmed the company’s commitment to completing the project to the highest standards within the set schedule.

“We have increased manpower and equipment to ensure timely completion. We appreciate the good cooperation from the government and the people of Kishapu, and we promise to deliver a project that meets the required quality,” said Engineer Xu.

The completion of the Kishapu Solar Power Project is expected to boost the country’s renewable energy generation capacity, ensure reliable power supply for institutions, industries, and citizens, and spur economic development in Shinyanga Region and the nation as a whole.
