The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, has met with experts from the National Planning Commission led by the Deputy Executive Secretary for Performance Management and Evaluation, Dr. Linda Ezekiel, to discuss how the Ministry and its institutions are strategically positioned to implement key energy projects that contribute to the realization of the National Development Vision 2050.
The meeting was based on the recognition of the energy sector as one of the five key enablers identified in Vision 2050, which emphasizes that reliable energy is a vital driver of industrial growth and economic activities, thereby improving living standards through job creation and promoting sustainable community development.
The session, held in Dodoma and attended by officials from various institutions under the Ministry of Energy, focused on strengthening coordination in the implementation of energy projects to ensure alignment with national development priorities.
“The Ministry of Energy continues to implement major energy projects, including the 400kV Chalinze–Dodoma power transmission project, which is expected to be completed by June 2026. This is one of the projects that will significantly enhance reliable electricity supply in regions such as Katavi, Kigoma, and other areas that have long faced power challenges,” said Engineer Mramba.
He added that the completion of strategic power projects will help achieve one of the targets set in Vision 2050 — to increase electricity consumption to an average of 3,000 kWh per capita annually.
“We aim to build a nation with reliable, affordable, and clean energy for all Tanzanians. To achieve this goal, the Government welcomes private sector participation in energy investments, as the success of this sector depends on collaboration among all stakeholders,” emphasized Engineer Mramba.
During the meeting, the Ministry also presented a progress report on projects related to Natural Gas and Petroleum, Clean Cooking Energy, Electricity, and Alternative Energy.
For her part, Dr. Linda Ezekiel from the National Planning Commission commended the strong collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and the Commission, emphasizing that the direction of the projects discussed aligns well with the goals of Vision 2050.
She noted that the Commission will continue to monitor the implementation of these projects to ensure they directly contribute to national economic growth, improve citizens’ well-being, and safeguard the environment.
“Vision 2050 aspires to build a modern, competitive, and inclusive economy. The energy sector is a cornerstone for achieving all these objectives. We commend the Ministry of Energy’s efforts to make energy the engine of development,” said Dr. Ezekiel.
Through this meeting, both the Ministry of Energy and the National Planning Commission agreed to continue working closely in planning, implementing, and monitoring all energy-related projects to ensure Tanzania successfully attains the goals of the National Development Vision 2050.
