Bank of Tanzania Participates in the 48th SADC CISNA Annual General Meeting in Botswana

The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) is participating in the 48th Annual General Meeting and related committee meetings of the Committee of Insurance, Securities and Non-Banking Financial Authorities (CISNA) of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The meeting, taking place in Maun, Botswana, from October 5 to 10, 2025, brings together delegates from various SADC member states to discuss issues related to the regulation and strengthening of non-banking financial sectors.

The BoT delegation is led by the Deputy Governor for Financial Sector Stability, Ms. Sauda Msemo.

The Bank of Tanzania is a member of CISNA due to its role in supervising investments of social security funds and non-bank financial institutions, including those offering microfinance services. BoT officially joined the committee after signing the membership agreement on October 6, 2023.

The meeting was officially opened on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, by the Vice President of Botswana, H.E. Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, who commended CISNA for its strong performance and urged members to strengthen efforts toward developing the SADC region’s economy.

He emphasized the importance of CISNA members designing effective strategies to improve the welfare of citizens across the region, while also commending the committee’s initiatives to promote financial literacy and advance microfinance services.

CISNA’s mandate is to harmonize regulatory frameworks for non-bank financial services across SADC member states to ensure alignment with international standards set by relevant global institutions.
