SPECIAL DELEGATION FROM THE UK VISITS THE MINISTRY OF MINERALS

A special delegation from the Government of the United Kingdom, led by the newly appointed Development Director at the British High Commission in Tanzania, Ms. Anna Wilson, visited the Ministry of Minerals and held discussions with the ministry’s leadership, headed by the Acting Commissioner for Minerals, Mr. Terrence Ngole.

The visit, held today September 3, 2025, in Dodoma, aimed to formally introduce Ms. Wilson to the leadership of the Ministry of Minerals following her official assumption of duties to oversee development affairs on behalf of the UK Government in Tanzania. During the meeting, the delegation was briefed in detail about the structure of the Ministry of Minerals, its subordinate institutions, and the responsibilities of the Mineral Department.

Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Eng. Yahya Samamba, Commissioner Ngole expressed gratitude to the UK Government for maintaining strong relations with Tanzania, particularly in advancing the mining sector.

Furthermore, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary Eng. Samamba, Commissioner Ngole requested the UK Government to continue strengthening cooperation in key areas that contribute significantly to the growth of the sector. These include mineral value addition within the country, enhancing geological research and surveys, improving modern laboratory infrastructure, facilitating the adoption of advanced technologies, and providing training opportunities for local experts in the mining sector.

“We recognize and appreciate the longstanding partnership between Tanzania and the UK, and we look forward to continued collaboration in developing this vital sector for the growth of our national economy,” said Ngole.

Ngole also highlighted one of the notable achievements of this cooperation as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) and the British Geological Survey (BGS), aimed at strengthening scientific research, laboratory services, and capacity building for mining sector personnel in Tanzania.

For her part, Ms. Anna Wilson commended the Ministry of Minerals for its strong operational framework and the steps taken to develop the sector with transparency and efficiency. She pledged to follow up on all requests made and reaffirmed the UK Government’s commitment to remain a close partner to Tanzania in the mining sector.

“We believe that through cooperation, we can unlock more opportunities for sustainable development in the mining sector, for the benefit of the people of both nations,” said Ms. Wilson.
