PREPARATORY MEETINGS FOR THE 35TH SECTORAL COUNCIL OF MINISTERS OF THE EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY BEGIN IN ARUSHA

Preparatory meetings for the 35th Sectoral Council of Ministers responsible for East African Community (EAC) Affairs and Planning, as well as the 58th Special Meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers at the Experts’ level, officially commenced yesterday, August 31, 2025, in Arusha.
The Experts’ meeting was opened and chaired by Dr. Alice Yalla, the EAC Integration Secretary, who emphasized the importance of timely implementation of commitments set by the experts in order to achieve the goals of the Community.
Among other issues, the Experts’ meeting is deliberating on various key agendas relating to the EAC integration process, which will later be presented to the Permanent Secretaries’ Meeting for further discussions and ultimately submitted to the Ministers’ Meeting.
Reports and proposals under review include updates on the implementation of past decisions and directives of the Sectoral Council of Ministers in charge of EAC Affairs and Planning.
The meeting will also discuss the Draft 7th EAC Development Strategy, the EAC Vision 2050, the Digital Transformation Strategy (2025–2030), the Draft EAC Language Policy, as well as the Community’s work calendar for July to December 2025, and progress made in the elimination of non-tariff barriers within the region.
Other important matters for in-depth discussion include political developments within the EAC Partner States.
The Experts’ meeting is scheduled to run from August 31 to September 2, 2025, followed by the Permanent Secretaries’ meeting on September 3–4, 2025, and will conclude with the 35th Sectoral Council of Ministers responsible for EAC Affairs and Planning on September 5–6, 2025.
