Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Eng. Felchesmi Mramba, led a Tanzanian government delegation in a meeting with the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) to explore opportunities for cooperation in developing nuclear power projects.

The meeting, held in Vienna, Austria, on the sidelines of the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), provided a platform for CNNC representatives to present the company’s extensive experience in building and operating nuclear power plants. They expressed readiness to collaborate with Tanzania at various stages of implementing such projects.

“Tanzania has embarked on preparations to generate electricity from nuclear energy, in line with the vision of Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, to ensure the country has sustainable, safe, and reliable sources of energy. We are therefore ready to cooperate with CNNC on this journey toward nuclear power generation,” said Mramba.

The initiative aims to ensure Tanzania has adequate skilled professionals to manage and sustain nuclear energy projects.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Jing Zhang, Director of the Technical Department of the IAEA; Eng. Joseph Kirangi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water and Minerals of Zanzibar; Prof. Najat Mohamed, Director General of the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC); Eng.
