The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Eng. Felchesmi Mramba, announced that the government has removed Value Added Tax (VAT) on all Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in the country to encourage the use of natural gas in motor vehicles through the establishment of more service stations for the public.

He added that the government has also exempted tax on gas conversion equipment for motor vehicles such as cars and three-wheelers (bajaji), as part of efforts to promote the use of natural gas in the transport sector.

Eng. Mramba made the remarks today, September 24, 2025, in Dar es Salaam while officiating the launch of Puma Energy’s new CNG station located along Bagamoyo Road.

“The government is making these efforts to enable Tanzanians to use gas in their motor vehicles by easing accessibility and because natural gas is more cost-effective compared to petroleum products,” said Mramba.

According to him, there are currently 11 CNG filling stations operating in Dar es Salaam, and the government is committed to increasing the number to 18 by the end of this year in different parts of the city.

He also revealed that the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) has already introduced six mobile gas filling trucks that will be supplying CNG to vehicles in various locations.

In addition, Eng. Mramba commended Puma Energy for building the new station and urged other stakeholders to continue investing in CNG infrastructure.

“I also call upon citizens and motor vehicle users to embrace natural gas since more stations have been established, making the service increasingly accessible to our communities,” emphasized Mramba.

For her part, Ms. Fatma Abdallah, the Managing Director of Puma Energy, said the company built the station to support the government’s efforts in advancing the transition towards clean and safe energy for powering motor vehicles.
