DAR ES SALAAM POLICE ISSUE SECURITY AND CRIME CRACKDOWN REPORT

The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police have assured that the security situation in the city remains calm, with social and political activities continuing peacefully.
Speaking to journalists, the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, SACP Muliro Jumanne Muliro, said the police, in collaboration with other state security agencies, continue to fulfill their core duties of preventing crime and ensuring that citizens live in peace.
On August 11, 2025, police arrested a suspect, Ramadhan Makala, a resident of Tabata, for allegedly transporting 13 sacks of cannabis weighing 239 kilograms. The sacks were mixed with rice and being ferried in a Fuso truck, registration T.733 AGT, from Morogoro to Dar es Salaam.
Between August 12 and 20, 2025, in the Magomeni–Kinondoni area, police arrested two suspects: Hassan Hamis (Tandale) and Elia Mapunda (Goba), who were found with six motorcycles bearing different registration numbers and various spare parts suspected to be stolen. In addition, three other suspects arrested for burglary—Gift Shabani (Kimara), Hussein Ally (Tandale), and Razaki Ramadhani (Manzese)—were found in possession of 21 stolen television sets and 10 stolen mobile phones.
Commander Muliro further stated that between August 16 and 25, 2025, the Police Force conducted a crackdown and impounded 15 vehicles that were operating with unofficial registration plates marked SSH 2530, in violation of traffic safety laws.
In another development, the police reported progress in court cases where several offenders received lengthy prison sentences for crimes including rape, sodomy, and armed robbery. Those convicted include Ashiri Bashiru Selemani (Kivule), Jumanne Onesmo Ngalya (Chanika), Tyson Fidel Malingumu (Chanika), Nicolaus Gabriel Thomas (Tabata Barakuda), Shafii Abdallah @Shado (Karakata), Samwel Kedymo @Sampepe (Kibamba), and Maulid Rashid @Mfuko (Mbezi).
The police have also urged citizens, particularly parents and guardians, to closely monitor children during the upcoming Maulid celebrations, while stressing the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent accidents.
“The Police Force has made preparations to ensure that believers and all residents of Dar es Salaam celebrate Maulid in peace and tranquility,” said SACP Muliro.
