The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has received a team of experts from the Southern African Development Community Climate Service Centre (SADC CSC), which coordinates the implementation of the SADC project aimed at strengthening climate services for Member States under the Intra-ACP Climate Services and Related Applications (ClimSA) program.

The experts conducted their visit on August 18, 2025, at TMA headquarters located at Ubungo Plaza, Dar es Salaam, led by the project coordinator, Ms. Surekha Ramessur. The main purpose of the visit was to inspect the functionality of equipment donated to Tanzania through TMA under the SADC ClimSA project and to officially hand it over for institutional use.

The equipment inspected and handed over to TMA included: a workstation for processing data and generating severe weather early warning information (Client Workstations for ClimSA Station and Early Warning System); two servers (Databases); and data rescue equipment for archiving meteorological data.

The official handover ceremony took place at the office of the Director of Infrastructure and Technical Services, Dr. Pascal Waniha, who received the equipment on behalf of the Acting Director General. Dr. Waniha expressed gratitude to the SADC Secretariat for continuing to support member states through regional programs that strengthen climate services.

On her part, the team leader, Ms. Surekha Ramessur, commended TMA for the significant progress it has made in providing weather and climate services and assured that the SADC CSC will continue collaborating with TMA through regional initiatives aimed at enhancing climate services for SADC member states. The Intra-ACP Climate Services and Related Applications (ClimSA) project is being implemented across SADC Member States, including Tanzania, with funding from the European Development Fund (EDF). The project aims to further strengthen the capacity of SADC member states in providing weather and climate services, particularly severe weather early warnings.
