Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Hon. Dr. Doto Biteko, has urged Tanzanians to evaluate candidates for various positions in the upcoming General Election and vote fairly on October 29, 2025, without allowing the election to divide them.
Dr. Biteko made these remarks on August 12, 2025, while representing the Hon. President at the climax of the 40th Anniversary celebrations of the Kagera Diocese, held at St. John the Baptist Cathedral Grounds – Murgwanza, Ngara.
He emphasized that Tanzanians have the right to assess candidates based on their actions and ultimately exercise justice by voting democratically, stressing the importance of conducting civilized campaigns and avoiding unethical practices.
Delivering the President’s greetings, Dr. Biteko said that Dr. Samia acknowledges and respects the contribution of religious institutions to the nation’s development. “Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan is committed to building the nation, and everything you do that aims at the people’s development has her full support,” Dr. Biteko stated.
To support this vision, President Dr. Samia has donated TZS 50 million towards a fundraising drive for the construction of a new Anglican Church for the Diocese of Kagera.
Dr. Biteko also stressed the importance of everyone being a source of joy to others in order to create a happy life.
Earlier, the Bishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania – Kagera Diocese, Darlington Misango Bendankeha, thanked the Government for the strong cooperation in implementing various development projects.
Bishop Bendankeha highlighted that the Government, at all levels, offers support that has enabled the implementation of health and education projects for community development.
He requested the Government’s support for the construction of a 900-meter road connecting various service institutions, an ambulance, and additional contributions toward the ongoing church construction, which costs TZS 1.18 billion.
Responding to these requests, Dr. Biteko instructed the Regional Commissioner, District Commissioner, and the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to facilitate the road construction, and he pledged to provide an ambulance to Murgwanza Hospital after consultation with the Minister for Health, Hon. Jenista Mhagama.
Speaking on the upcoming General Election, Bishop Bendankeha urged citizens to participate fully and choose their leaders in the next General Election to drive development. “Let us prepare to participate in the upcoming General Election; our vote is the power for change,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kagera Regional Commissioner, Hon. Fatuma Mwassa, commended the Anglican Church of Tanzania for the various community development services it provides.
