POWER GENERATION FROM RENEWABLE ENERGY REACHES 67% – COMMISSIONER LUOGA.
📌 Commends President Samia for providing funds for the implementation of renewable energy projects
📌 Closes solar energy technology training for experts
Tanzania has continued to increase its sources of electricity generation from renewable energy to 67%, including the use of hydropower and solar energy.
This was stated in Dar es Salaam by the Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Innocent Luoga, while closing a training program for experts from various institutions in the country on the design, manufacturing, installation, and utilization of solar energy systems.
“Tanzania has made significant progress in the efficient use of energy and renewable energy, including clean cooking energy, especially after the country signed the National Energy Action Plan in January this year. One of the major renewable energy projects we are currently implementing is the Kishapu solar power project in Shinyanga Region, which has reached 75% completion and is expected to generate 50 megawatts in the first phase, with the second phase expected to produce 100 megawatts,” said Luoga.
While closing the training, Engineer Luoga said the program on solar energy technology was conducted in the country because Tanzania has made great strides in the efficient use of energy and renewable energy.
He also thanked the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for continuing to provide funding for renewable energy projects in the country.
He added that participants from various institutions took part in the solar energy training known as SOLTRAIN+, organized by the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with the Southern African Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE), which operates under the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Earlier, the training was opened by Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, who urged participants to use the skills and knowledge they had acquired to create self-employment and also share their expertise with others.
