PM Majaliwa Represents President Samia at Uvinza–Musongati SGR Foundation Stone Ceremony
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has arrived in Musongati, Burundi, to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) section from Uvinza in Kigoma Region, Tanzania, to Musongati in Burundi, covering a distance of 300 kilometers.
The Uvinza–Musongati SGR project spans 300 kilometers, including 240 kilometers of the main line and 60 kilometers of passing loops, and is expected to feature both cargo and passenger stations.
Out of the 300 kilometers, the Uvinza–Malagarasi section on the Tanzanian side will cover 190 kilometers, while the Malagarasi–Musongati section in Burundi will cover 110 kilometers.
The project is expected to create 5,000 direct jobs through the contractor over the 60-month implementation period.
