The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Eng. Felchesmi Mramba, has announced that out of the strategic projects being implemented across the country, the ministry is undertaking seven major projects.
Eng. Mramba made the statement on August 17, 2025, during the launch of the Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE) Program, which targets areas along the route of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
“These projects include the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project, oil exploration, the Ruhudji and Rumakali hydropower projects, and oil exploration in the Mnazi Bay North area,” said Eng. Mramba.
He explained that among these seven projects, the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant with a capacity of 2,115 megawatts has been completed and is already supplying electricity to the national grid.
He further added that the EACOP project has reached 65% completion and is nearing finalization, while the LNG project is in its final stages. In addition, feasibility studies for the Ruhudji and Rumakali hydropower projects have been completed.
Moreover, he stated that the Government of Tanzania has already invested approximately TZS 1.12 trillion in EACOP as Tanzania’s equity share in the project. About 200 Tanzanian companies engaged in EACOP will be paid a total of TZS 1.325 trillion for various works under the project.
Eng. Mramba emphasized that beyond economic opportunities, communities located along the EACOP route will also benefit by being connected to the national electricity grid.
