MEDIA URGED TO BE A PILLAR IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TANZANIA DEVELOPMENT VISION 2050.

Media outlets in the country have been reminded of their crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation of the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 (TDV 2050) by helping the public understand it, access it, and embrace it as a tool for social and economic transformation.

Speaking today, August 19, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, UNFPA Deputy Representative and Chief of Mission in Tanzania, Melissa Barrett, said that journalists hold a unique position in shaping inspiring narratives, raising public awareness about the vision, and promoting transparency and accountability in its implementation.

Barrett emphasized that through both traditional and digital platforms, the media can simplify and present TDV 2050 in an engaging way that resonates with communities across the nation.

“These trainings not only broaden journalists’ understanding of the contents of the vision but also strengthen collaboration between government, the media, and development partners. The role of journalists is not only to report but also to educate citizens, especially the youth, on the many opportunities that will arise from the implementation of this vision,” she stated.

On his part, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Planning Commission, Mursali Milanzi, said preparations for the implementation of TDV 2050 have already begun by building the capacity of journalists so that they can serve as ambassadors in communicating the vision accurately to the public.

Milanzi explained that the official rollout of the vision is expected to begin in the 2026/2027 financial year, with the government putting in place robust monitoring and accountability mechanisms under the supervision of the Planning Commission to ensure positive outcomes.

He further highlighted that TDV 2050 is anchored on three main pillars:

  1. Economic growth,
  2. Human development,
  3. Environmental sustainability and climate change adaptation.

Additionally, he assured that the government will continue working closely with media outlets to provide accurate information and education on the vision, enabling every Tanzanian—from the household level to the national stage—to actively participate in the journey toward sustainable development by the year 2050.
