The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pledged to work closely with the media to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information regarding the 2025 General Election.

Opening a training session for Editors and Journalists on the 2025 General Election at Mlimani City Hall today, August 4, 2025, INEC’s Director of Elections, Mr. Kailima R.K., stated that during this election period, the Commission will collaborate with journalists through various channels, including participating in radio and television programs and issuing official statements promptly to guarantee that citizens receive factual and reliable information.

“We believe that the media plays a crucial role in ensuring the electoral process is conducted peacefully. Therefore, we will continue to work closely together to ensure that information shared adheres to journalistic ethics and avoids content that could incite hatred or violence,” said Mr. Kailima.

The Director of Elections emphasized that the Commission will provide accurate and timely information and extend full cooperation to journalists whenever clarification or media assistance is required.

Additionally, Mr. Kailima announced that the Commission will launch a system for registering media outlets from September 1 to 30, 2025.

“This system will enable media houses to obtain official permits and identification cards for their journalists to facilitate their work during the General Election,” he explained.

The training for Editors and Journalists marked the conclusion of a series of stakeholder meetings that began on July 27, 2025, where the Commission engaged with political party leaders, non-governmental organizations, representatives of women, youth, and persons with disabilities, media editors, journalists, and online content creators.
