Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Hon. Dr. Doto Biteko, has urged staff of the Ministry of Energy and its affiliated institutions to lead by example in the use of Clean Cooking Energy as part of implementing the agenda championed by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, which seeks to promote safe and healthy cooking solutions.

Dr. Biteko gave the directive on August 22, 2025, in Dodoma while distributing energy-efficient stoves to staff of the Ministry of Energy and the Rural Energy Agency (REA). He emphasized that ministry employees should act as ambassadors in implementing the Clean Cooking Energy Agenda.

“Today we are distributing these stoves because you are the primary custodians of this agenda. It is your responsibility to be good ambassadors to the communities around you so they too can be motivated to adopt clean energy,” said Dr. Biteko.

He noted that due to growing awareness among citizens about the benefits of clean cooking energy, usage has risen from 6% to 20.3%, with the national target being 80% by 2034.

Dr. Biteko highlighted that the number of people still using unsafe cooking energy remains high globally, across Africa, and in Tanzania. He stressed that it is the duty of all ministry staff and its agencies to provide proper education so that citizens can make the transition and achieve the national target.

While handing over 220 stoves to REA staff, Dr. Biteko commended the agency for its continued efforts in promoting the use of clean cooking energy, especially in rural areas where access remains a challenge.

He also praised REA for ensuring that all 12,318 villages across the country have access to electricity.

For his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Eng. Felchesmi Mramba, assured Dr. Biteko that the directive will be fully implemented across all the institutions under the ministry.

He affirmed that the Clean Cooking Energy Agenda will be effectively realized and urged staff to make use of the stoves provided instead of keeping them unused.
