ACT WAZALENDO REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO POLITICAL CHANGE AHEAD OF 2025 GENERAL ELECTION
By Our Reporter
The leader of ACT Wazalendo, Dorothy Semu, has stated that the party’s decision to participate in the 2025 General Election is not out of mere interest, but a firm commitment to safeguard citizens’ right to vote and restore the value of their ballots.
Speaking today, August 6, 2025, during a Special General Meeting of the party at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam, Semu said:
"We did not choose to participate in the elections out of affection. We chose to participate out of conviction — the conviction to protect the right to vote and restore the value of the ballot so that citizens have the power to decide who leads them."
Semu emphasized that history has shown boycotting elections never brings change; therefore, ACT Wazalendo has resolved to fight through democratic means.
"The real struggle is for those who dare to enter the arena. And we, ACT Wazalendo, have entered the battlefield and we will emerge victorious! The CCM government has failed to manage the economy, social services, and governance effectively," she declared.
She added that many Tanzanians continue to live under difficult conditions, lacking quality social services and access to job opportunities.
On his part, the Party’s National Chairperson, Othman Masoud Othman, said this meeting is not an ordinary one but a critical step toward restoring the voice, authority, and dignity of Tanzanians.
"This meeting is about mapping a way forward to return the voices of Tanzanians — voices that have been suppressed and denied for a long time," said Othman, who also serves as the First Vice President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
He stressed that the meeting is not about setting up electoral logistics or seeking votes, but about preparing a framework that will return power to the people to choose and hold their leaders accountable.
"Any human being deprived of these two voices — the right to elect a leader and the right to hold that leader accountable — lives in slavery, even if they reside in a palace full of comfort," he added.
Othman warned delegates and leaders not to betray the aspirations of Tanzanians by lacking vision for change or failing to fulfill their responsibilities.
"Let us not fail the people of Tanzania. We are shaping a policy and political direction that will free Tanzanians from the bondage of lacking influence over their future," he said.
Meanwhile, ACT Wazalendo Secretary-General Ado Shaibu said the party is meticulously prepared to win the 2025 General Election and democratically remove CCM from power.
"We have learned from the history of many parties in the country, assessing their strengths and weaknesses. ACT Wazalendo is ready and fully armed — politically, ethically, and strategically," Shaibu declared.
