The Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) has leveraged the Youth Skills, Trades, and Employment Fair taking place at Mwembe Togwa Grounds in Iringa Municipality to announce various economic opportunities available through sustainable forest management in the country.

The exhibition, which runs from July 25 to 27, 2025, aims to inspire young people in Iringa Region and neighboring areas to engage in sectors that can improve their economic well-being, including beekeeping, forest products trade, tree planting, and ecological tourism.

Speaking during the opening of the fair, Kilolo District Commissioner Hon. Estomih Kyando—representing the Iringa Regional Commissioner—commended TFS for consistently providing education and creating opportunities for youth through their participation in such events.

“Our region of Iringa has a strong history of forest conservation, and its residents have shown great interest in the trade of planted forest products. TFS has been at the forefront in ensuring people receive accurate information on these opportunities,” said Hon. Kyando.

He emphasized that young people should be ambassadors of conservation education and take the lead in seizing opportunities in various sectors aligned with the Sixth Phase Government’s commitment under President Samia Suluhu Hassan to promote inclusive development through skills, employment, and an industrial economy.

For his part, TFS Conservation Officer Paulo Rugola, speaking during a government leaders’ tour of their pavilion on July 26, 2025, explained that TFS uses platforms like these exhibitions to reach citizens and raise awareness about sustainable forest use for economic development.

“We are highlighting various opportunities available within our forests. These include access to raw materials from trees, beekeeping and honey product sales, as well as ecological tourism, which is growing rapidly across the country,” Rugola stated.

He further noted that TFS operates specialized centers for producing high-quality tree seeds for individuals interested in tree farming, particularly in the Southern Highlands, where awareness of forest benefits is increasing.

“We welcome youth and farmers to come and learn about best practices in tree production, as tree planting not only increases income but also plays a role in combating climate change,” Rugola emphasized.

Additionally, he cautioned against careless use of fire in forest areas during this dry season, urging citizens to take preventive measures and follow the forest conservation guidelines provided by TFS officers.

“There have been many fire incidents that destroy significant conservation efforts. TFS continues to provide education on the proper use of fire to protect these resources for current and future generations,” he added.

TFS is among many government and private institutions participating in the exhibition, held under the theme: “Youth: Your Skills, Your Career, Your Choice.” The fair is scheduled to officially close on July 27, 2025.
