The Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) has received a Certificate of Appreciation from a non-governmental organization known as the Foundation for Disabilities Hope (FDH), based in Dodoma Region.
Speaking during the award ceremony held on July 14, 2025, at TAWA’s Headquarters in Morogoro Region, the Acting Commissioner of TAWA, Mlage Kabange, said that TAWA has been collaborating with FDH in providing public education on conservation matters. This includes raising awareness on the importance of protecting wildlife resources and preserving the environment within conservation areas.
Commissioner Kabange further explained that to ensure communities benefit from conservation activities, TAWA has established a special arrangement that allows local residents to engage in fishing and beekeeping activities in certain areas under its management, thus enabling them to earn income from conservation efforts.
The Executive Director of FDH, Maiko Salali, expressed his gratitude to TAWA for the ongoing support provided to their organization. He also noted that FDH recognizes the contributions of various institutions that support people with disabilities, and TAWA stands out as one of the leading organizations offering meaningful assistance to these vulnerable groups in achieving their goals and addressing various challenges.
Mr. Salali added that FDH was particularly touched by TAWA’s efforts in prioritizing the needs of people with disabilities, and that the award serves as a recognition of TAWA’s valuable contribution to the disability community.
He also emphasized that FDH will continue partnering with TAWA to promote environmental conservation and protect tourist attractions.
