PRIME MINISTER VISITS BELARUSIAN STATE AGRARIAN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has visited the Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University (BSATU) and held discussions with the university’s leadership, led by the Rector, Mr. Romaniuk Nikolai.
The talks took place today (Wednesday, July 23, 2025) in the university’s conference hall in Minsk, where cooperation between Tanzanian universities—including Sokoine and DIT—and BSATU was discussed.
The Prime Minister informed the university leaders about the Tanzanian Government’s improved education policy under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, which emphasizes vocational and technical skills as an essential part of the national training curriculum.
He further highlighted the education sector Memorandum of Understanding signed yesterday in the presence of the Prime Minister of Belarus, noting that this is the right time to explore exchange programs, study tours, and collaboration in capacity building for both sides.
For his part, BSATU Rector Mr. Romaniuk Nikolai assured the Prime Minister that the university is ready to begin discussions with officials from the Ministry of Education who accompanied the Prime Minister, to determine how to implement the agreed areas of cooperation.
He explained that BSATU, established in 1954, is a leading institution in Belarus in the fields of engineering, economics, and management, and works closely with 39 affiliate organizations involved in agriculture and the design of modern agricultural machinery and equipment.
He added that the university focuses on specialized training in animal husbandry and agricultural mechanization, with 70% of its programs being practical-based. Students are also required to undertake 28 weeks of external industrial internships as part of their training.
Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister met with representatives of AFTRADE, an association of Belarusian companies engaged in trade with African countries, at the President Hotel’s conference hall.
The Prime Minister is accompanied on this visit by the Minister of State, Office of the President for Labour, Economy, and Investment of Zanzibar, Mr. Shariff Ali Shariff; Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mr. Cosato Chumi; Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Dr. Khatibu Kazungu; Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Stephen Nindi; and Tanzania’s Ambassador to Russia and Belarus, Ambassador Fredrick Kibuta.
