PRESIDENT SAMIA’S FUND UNLOCKED // TZS 98.893 BILLION TO BOOST SECONDARY EDUCATION IN MBEYA AND MTWARA.



The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has allocated over TZS 98.893 billion to strengthen the education sector in Mbeya and Mtwara regions.

The funds have been disbursed through the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP) and will be used for the renovation of old schools, construction of new schools, classrooms, teachers’ houses, and pit latrines in secondary schools.

In Mbeya Region, from 2022 to 2024, a total of TZS 24,531,200,420.00 has been released for the construction of 22 new ward-level secondary schools, a boarding girls’ secondary school, renovation of Mwakaleli Secondary School, and the completion of science laboratories.


Additionally, the funds have facilitated the completion of classrooms, construction of 221 pit latrines, 8 teachers' houses, 2 vocational schools, expansion of 6 secondary schools to include Form Five classes, construction of hostels, additional classrooms, and completion of infrastructure at the regional special girls' secondary school located in Kyela District.

In Mtwara Region, the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan has disbursed over TZS 74.362 billion through the SEQUIP project to improve the education sector. The funds have been used to construct 38 new schools, 21 teachers’ houses, 29 hostels, 137 pit latrines, 20 classrooms, 26 additional classrooms, and 27 unfinished classroom structures (bomas).

*Government Launches 15274 Hotline to Ease Access to National ID Information

Dar es Salaam: The Government has urged citizens to use their mobile phones by dialing *15274 to easily access information related to National Identification Cards (NIDA). Speaking today, December 29, 2025, the Minister for Home Affairs, George Simbachawene, said the service will enable citizens to check the status of their National ID cards, including whether the card has been produced or not, with feedback provided within five days. He explained that through this number, citizens will receive important information regarding their National IDs, adding that damaged ID cards are expected to be replaced starting February 2026. “By using this number, you will be able to get information on whether your ID card has been produced. I emphasize that damaged ID cards will be issued in February 2026,” said Minister Simbachawene.
