President Samia to Launch East Africa Investment Center on August 1.

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is set to inaugurate the East Africa Investment Center on August 1, 2025, in Ubungo, Dar es Salaam. This launch is part of the Government’s strategic plan to strengthen trade and investment opportunities in the country and the region.

RC Chalamila Calls on Citizens to Participate

Speaking at a press briefing in Dar es Salaam, the Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Hon. Albert Chalamila, urged city residents and all Tanzanians—especially those who have secured business spaces or intend to operate within the center—to attend the inauguration ceremony.
“This is a unique opportunity to witness the significant investment made by the Sixth Phase Government and explore the vast business opportunities available at this center,” said Chalamila.

Major Investment and Business Opportunities

According to RC Chalamila, the government relocated the intercity bus terminal from Ubungo to Mbezi and transformed the former site into the East Africa Investment Center. The project, constructed at a cost of over USD 100 million, features more than 2,000 shops.

“The main goal is to increase investment opportunities and improve the business environment nationally and regionally,” he added.

Public-Private Partnership for Growth

The investment center was built through a partnership between the Government of Tanzania, via the Ubungo Municipal Council, and an investor from China. Chalamila emphasized that foreign investment participation is not intended to take away opportunities from local investors, but to create a mutually beneficial framework that supports Tanzanians.

Business Opportunities During CHAN and AFCON

Chalamila also encouraged Tanzanians to take advantage of the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) to engage in business. The regional government has organized trade exhibitions for small and large entrepreneurs around Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

He further called on the public to attend the CHAN opening ceremony on August 2 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, noting that 100 buses have been allocated per district to facilitate transportation. He also urged bodaboda (motorcycle taxis), bajaj operators, and hotel owners to capitalize on this influx of visitors to boost their income.

“The launch of the East Africa Investment Center, along with CHAN and later AFCON, presents major economic opportunities for Tanzanians,” he stressed.
