NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT VISION 2050 IDENTIFIES MINERALS AS A NATIONAL PRIORITY.
The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has identified the mining sector as one of the nine national priority areas in the country’s Development Vision 2025–2050 due to its significant contribution to the national economy.
Speaking at the official launch of the new Development Vision held at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre (JKCC) in Dodoma, President Samia emphasized that the mining sector plays a vital role in accelerating the development of other sectors, increasing employment opportunities for Tanzanians, and boosting national income through value addition to locally produced products.
President Samia further explained that the National Development Vision 2025–2050 clearly recognizes the importance of the mining sector in driving an industrial economy, strengthening foreign trade through the export of value-added products, and creating employment opportunities for youth across different regions of the country.
She noted that the Vision aims to make Tanzania a strong, inclusive, and globally competitive economy.
In light of this importance, the government is committed to moving away from the export of raw materials. Instead, it will invest more in technology and industries that will add value to mineral products, thereby increasing revenue and job creation.
The National Development Vision 2025–2050 is a continuation of the 2025 Vision and has been crafted in response to global economic, social, and technological changes. Through this new Vision, the government aims to achieve an upper-middle-income industrial economy driven by knowledge, innovation, and sustainable use of resources.
Other priority sectors identified in the Vision include Agriculture, Tourism, Industry, Construction and Real Estate, the Blue Economy, Sports and Innovation, Financial Services, and the Service Sector.
Among other goals, the launch of the Development Vision 2050 lays a solid foundation for a long-term strategy to build a new Tanzania — one that is inclusive and sustainable for both present and future generations.
