MAJALIWA: ACTIF 2025 MUST PROVIDE SOLUTIONS TO TRADE AND INVESTMENT CHALLENGES.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has emphasized that the Fourth Africa-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF) should deliver concrete solutions to trade and investment challenges facing African nations and those in the Caribbean region.
He stated that these challenges must be openly discussed, and all barriers hindering trade between the two regions should be clearly identified.
The Prime Minister made these remarks yesterday (Monday, July 28, 2025) while participating in a Heads of State and Government panel during the opening session of the Fourth Africa-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF 2025), held at the Radisson Conference Center in St. George’s, Grenada. Majaliwa is attending the forum on behalf of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
“Beyond discussing these challenges, our countries must create favorable environments to attract investment and provide strong support to investors interested in our markets. For us in Tanzania, Aliko Dangote is a living example; he has made a significant investment in building a cement factory,” Majaliwa said.
Other leaders who participated in the discussion include Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt; Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley; Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston A. Browne; Saint Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew; Saint Lucia Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre; and Rwanda’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Prudence Sebahizi.
ACTIF was launched in 2022 with the aim of strengthening economic and cultural ties between Africa and the Caribbean. Over the past three years, the forum has facilitated stronger public-private partnerships, the signing of cooperation agreements worth over USD 4 billion, and laid the groundwork for establishing a formal trade zone between African and Caribbean nations.
Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Thomas Mitchell highlighted the need to institutionalize resources and empower economic platforms such as ACTIF. “This step will ensure our youth understand that the only way for our nations to thrive depends on the economic decisions we make today regarding the importance of strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Africa and the Diaspora,” he said.
Meanwhile, AFREXIMBANK President and Chairman of the Board, Prof. Benedict Oramah, stressed the importance of establishing dedicated institutions to accelerate development.
“We are currently working to establish a Caribbean Bank, which we believe will significantly facilitate trade and industrial development, similar to the role AFREXIMBANK has played in Africa,” Prof. Oramah noted.
The main objectives of ACTIF include strengthening historical and cultural ties between Africa and the Caribbean, creating a conducive environment for trade and investment between the two regions, and promoting shared economic development.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of State, President’s Office for Labor, Economy and Investment in Zanzibar, Mr. Shariff Ali Shariff, and Acting Tanzanian Ambassador to Cuba, the Caribbean, Central America, and the countries of Venezuela and Guyana, Mr. Wilbroad Kayombo.
