The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy responsible for electricity and renewable energy, Dr. Khatibu Kazungu, on July 4, 2025, received two vehicles donated by the European Union to support a national campaign to raise awareness and educate the public on the use of clean cooking energy. The initiative is part of the “Save Lives and the Environment” clean cooking campaign implemented by the Ministry of Energy in partnership with UNCDF.
“Clean cooking energy is a global agenda, and as the Ministry of Energy, we are fully committed to implementing it in support of H.E. President Samia,” said Dr. Kazungu.
He extended his appreciation to the European Union and UNCDF for implementing clean cooking projects under the CookFund initiative, which he said has transformed lives and shifted public perception regarding the use of clean energy technologies.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the EU Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E. Christine Grau, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Tanzania in its clean cooking energy initiatives. She announced that the EU has already contributed EUR 19.4 million (approximately TZS 59 billion) to finance clean cooking energy projects in the regions of Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Pwani, Morogoro, and Mwanza.
Regarding the vehicles, Ambassador Grau noted that the two vehicles, valued at EUR 130,000, are expected to help the Ministry ensure that rural communities also benefit from clean cooking solutions.
Tanzania is actively implementing its National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy through a dedicated National Communication Strategy aimed at public education. The government is targeting to ensure that at least 80% of Tanzanians adopt clean cooking energy by the year 2034.
