WMA ACHIEVES 96% IMPLEMENTATION OF ITS ANNUAL WORK PLAN.

The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) has achieved 96% of the targets set in its Annual Work Plan for the 2024/2025 financial year, as of May this year.
This was revealed on June 13, 2025, by Benjamin Nkwera, an Economist from the WMA’s Planning Unit, while presenting the implementation report of the Work Plan and Budget to members of the Workers' Council. The meeting was held at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School Hall in Kibaha, Coast Region.
In his presentation, the Economist explained that during the reporting period, 25 regions achieved 100% of their targets, four regions exceeded 90%, while two regions recorded below 80%.
Among the accomplishments during the period were the completion of the WMA Headquarters building in Dodoma, procurement of vehicles and other work tools, as well as recruitment of professionals in various fields.
Additionally, Nkwera reported that the Agency successfully verified 1,191,833 measuring instruments out of the targeted 1,238,391, equivalent to 96.24%.
“Out of the verified instruments, 16,210 were adjusted while 1,161 were rejected,” Nkwera detailed.
He added that during the same period, the Agency conducted 4,231 inspections against a target of 3,667, equivalent to 115.38%.
Other notable activities included inspections and monitoring of measuring instruments used during the offloading of petroleum products and edible oils. He mentioned that a total of 161 ships that entered the country, carrying a combined volume of 9,955,936,919 liters, were inspected.
Addressing the Council members, WMA Chief Executive Officer and Council Chairperson, Mr. Alban Kihulla, urged employees to continue working diligently, with love and unity, while avoiding corrupt practices to ensure continued positive outcomes for the benefit of citizens and the nation at large.
Meanwhile, the representative of the Government and Health Workers Union (TUGHE) from the Dar es Salaam region, Ms. Sara Rwezaula, commended the cooperation between the Agency’s management and its staff, which she said has been key to the Agency’s positive performance.
“I commend and thank the Chief Executive and the entire Management for continuing to implement the directives issued by the Workers’ Council,” she emphasized.
The 36th session of the WMA Workers’ Council was preceded by a meeting of the Executive Committee held a day earlier, on June 12, 2025.
The Weights and Measures Agency is one of the institutions under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Its primary responsibility is to protect consumers of goods and services through the use of accurate and reliable measurements.
