Tanzania to Host the 32nd International Tourism Awards for Africa and the Indian Ocean Region

Dar es Salaam.

Tanzania is set to host the 32nd edition of the International Tourism Awards for the Africa and Indian Ocean region, scheduled to take place on June 28, 2025, at Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam. The prestigious event is expected to attract over 500 delegates from both within and outside the country, presenting a major opportunity for the nation’s tourism sector.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on June 11, the Managing Director of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), Ephraim Mafuru, said the awards aim to recognize the contribution of tourism stakeholders globally. He noted that Tanzania's selection as host was due to its impressive performance in previous editions of the awards.

“The presence of these awards in the country is a result of efforts led by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan. Tanzania won five major awards last year, including Best Tourism Board in Africa (TTB), Best Tourist Attraction in Africa (Mount Kilimanjaro), Best National Park in Africa (Serengeti), and World's Best Safari Destination. These achievements are not accidental — they are the result of hard work and leadership,” Mafuru explained.

He added that more than 50 participants from both the private sector and government institutions are expected to attend the event. Mafuru also called on tourism stakeholders in Dar es Salaam to seize the opportunity to provide services to the visiting guests.

On his part, the General Manager of Johari Rotana Hotel, Ahmed Said, which will host the awards, affirmed that the hotel is well-prepared to offer high-quality hospitality to all guests attending the event.

Victoria Tarimo, Marketing Director at Shifaa Hospital — the official healthcare partner for the event — stated that the hospital is ready to provide international-standard medical services for guests who may face health challenges during the awards ceremony.

“We are fully prepared, equipped with modern facilities, qualified specialists, and an ambulance on standby for emergencies. We are committed to supporting President Dr. Samia’s medical tourism agenda,” she said.

The International Tourism Awards, established in 1993, aim to recognize outstanding contributions in the global tourism sector. Last year, the awards ceremony was held in Mombasa, Kenya.

All eyes are now on Tanzania, as the country positions itself as a leading tourism destination in Africa.
