The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felichesmi Mramba, has met with senior officials from the World Bank to discuss the progress made in implementing the special energy initiative known as “Mission 300,” which aims to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.
The meeting took place in Cape Town, South Africa, on the sidelines of the Africa Energy Forum, where Tanzania is participating.
Engineer Mramba stated that the initiative, which was endorsed during the African Heads of State Summit in January 2025, has been integrated into the Government’s national plans to meet the set objectives.
He noted that successful implementation of the initiative would enable Tanzania to increase electricity access from the current 78.4% to 100% by 2030, and also raise the use of clean cooking energy to 75% by the same year.
On their part, World Bank officials Ms. Yadviga Semikolenova, Regional Operations Manager for Southeast Africa, and Dr. Rhonda Antoine, Senior Energy Specialist for Africa, commended the Government of Tanzania for its proactive steps to ensure the success of Mission 300 and to expand reliable energy access to its citizens.
The World Bank also expressed its readiness to continue supporting Tanzania in its efforts to implement the Mission 300 initiative.
Engineer Mramba was accompanied at the meeting by Engineer Innocent Luoga, Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy, along with technical experts from the Ministry of Energy, TANESCO, REA, TPDC, and EWURA.
