The National Library of Tanzania has emphasized that publications containing information on the country’s mineral resources are a national treasure and should be officially registered to protect the integrity of that information for the benefit of current and future generations, as well as for the preservation of national history.

This was stated today, June 12, 2025, by Laura Ndomba, a Senior Officer from the National Library, during a visit by Senior Officials from the Library’s Head Offices in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma to the Ministry of Minerals offices in Mtumba, Dodoma.

Laura expressed her admiration for the wide array of professional publications produced by the Ministry of Minerals and its affiliated institutions, highlighting that these documents provide valuable insights into the mining sector, including research, policies, guidelines, statistics, and reports on strategic projects.

“We consider this information to be a national treasure. It is essential that it is officially registered through the National Library in order to gain legal protection and ensure it remains accessible to both the current and future generations,” Laura emphasized.

According to the National Library Authority, the registration of government publications not only ensures proper record-keeping but also protects national intellectual property from unauthorized use. Additionally, the deposit of copies with the National Library helps to strengthen the preservation of national knowledge in accordance with library laws.

On her part, Asteria Muhozya, Head of Government Communication Unit at the Ministry of Minerals, acknowledged that there have been challenges in registering publications with the National Library — a process that could enhance the distribution and preservation of some of the Ministry’s more technical and research-based documents.

“Registering our publications through the National Library will help ensure that all essential information is legally protected and made easily accessible to the public through both the Ministry’s platforms and the National Library,” Asteria added.

This visit marks a new chapter of collaboration between the Ministry of Minerals and the National Library, as part of the Government's ongoing efforts to ensure that strategic information is effectively preserved and disseminated for the benefit of the entire nation.
