Mineral Opportunities Now Digital, Tanzanians Urged to Seize the Moment.

๐Ÿ“ DODOMA, June 21, 2025

Tanzania’s mineral sector continues to thrive, creating employment, attracting investment, and contributing to both individual livelihoods and national development.

The government, through the Mining Commission, has continued to create an enabling environment by ensuring strong oversight, transparency, and stakeholder engagement across the entire mining value chain. This has been made possible by improved policies, legislation, and digital systems used to manage the sector.

Speaking on June 21, 2025, during the Public Service Week celebrations at Chinangali Grounds in Dodoma, Mr. Ashen Mwambage, a Mine Inspection Officer from the Directorate of Mines Inspection and Environment at the Mining Commission, urged Tanzanians to embrace the various opportunities offered by the mining sector.

He noted that in regions such as Geita, Shinyanga, Mara, and Mbeya, citizens have increasingly engaged in small-scale mining, which has significantly boosted household income and spurred socio-economic development.

“The government has done a lot to ensure these opportunities reach every Tanzanian. Through the establishment of mineral trading centers across different regions, mineral prices are now transparent, government revenue has increased, and miners are benefiting fairly,” said Mr. Mwambage.

On the technology front, he said the government has been at the forefront of promoting modern methods in mineral exploration, extraction, and processing to improve efficiency, minimize environmental impacts, and ensure the safety of small-scale miners. This has gone hand-in-hand with regular training provided to those miners.

“We should not export raw minerals; instead, we must add value within the country. Value addition has created numerous job opportunities, fostered entrepreneurship, and boosted the national economy,” he added.

Mr. Mwambage also highlighted that the mining sector has spurred growth in other sectors such as transportation, accommodation, logistics, financial services, and insurance—demonstrating how the industry plays a pivotal role in the broader national economy.

The Mining Commission is calling upon all Tanzanians, especially the youth, to take advantage of the available opportunities by adhering to existing regulations and procedures so they can benefit from the country's natural resources for the good of both current and future generations.
