KISHAPU SOLAR POWER PROJECT REACHES 63.3% COMPLETION - MD TWANGE



📌Says the first phase will generate 50 Megawatts to be fed into the National Grid


The Managing Director of TANESCO, Mr. Lazaro Twange, has announced that the Kishapu solar power generation project in Shinyanga Region has reached 63.3% completion. He stated that the first phase of the project will produce 50 Megawatts of electricity, which will be fed into the National Grid by the end of October this year.


Mr. Twange made these remarks on June 8, 2025, during an inspection visit to assess the progress of the project, which costs TZS 118 billion for the first phase, while the second phase is expected to cost TZS 204 billion.


“First, we thank His Excellency the President for providing funding for both phases. As you can see, the work is progressing well, and the project is expected to be integrated into the National Grid by the end of October to supply electricity to citizens. We are also in the final stages of procurement to select a contractor for the second phase, which will generate an additional 100 Megawatts,” emphasized MD Twange.




e also assured citizens that TANESCO is making deliberate efforts to ensure the project is completed on time to meet the growing electricity demands of the population and support investment activities that rely on energy to operate.


Meanwhile, the Project Manager, Engineer Emmanuel Andarson, noted that the project was initially scheduled for completion in February this year. However, the contractor was granted an extension due to various challenges. He has since pledged to complete the project as per the contractual agreement.


The solar power generation project located in Ngunga Village, Shinyanga Region, began implementation on December 8, 2023, and is expected to be fully completed by October 29, 2025. The total cost of both phases is TZS 323 billion, and the project is expected to generate a total of 150 Megawatts of electricity.
