The Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy from the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Innocent Luoga, conducted an inspection tour on June 12, 2025, to assess the progress of the ongoing Imara Grid electricity projects in Dar es Salaam. During the visit, he issued key directives to the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) and contractors involved in the implementation of the projects.

These projects aim to strengthen the electricity supply through improved transmission and distribution infrastructure, as part of the Government’s strategy to provide reliable and quality power services to citizens.

Speaking after the tour, Commissioner Luoga expressed satisfaction with the implementation progress despite various environmental challenges, and emphasized the importance of continued efforts to complete the projects on schedule.

“I am pleased with the progress made so far, but I have instructed contractors to expedite the work, ensure timely availability of materials, and adhere strictly to quality standards so that these projects deliver the intended benefits to the people,” Engineer Luoga stated.

He further elaborated that these strategic projects, implemented by TANESCO with funding from the Government, are meant to improve electricity services for residents of Dar es Salaam and beyond. He also extended his appreciation to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for approving the financial resources needed for the execution of these vital projects.

In his directives, the Commissioner urged TANESCO to strengthen oversight of contractors, ensure timely procurement of materials, and enforce quality control to avoid cost increases due to delays.

On his part, Engineer Abdallah Chikoyo, TANESCO’s Manager of Power Generation Projects who represented the Managing Director, pledged enhanced supervision and the establishment of practical work plans to ensure timely implementation.

“We are committed to intensifying our supervision efforts and strengthening collaboration with development partners to ensure the projects are completed on time and efficiently, fulfilling our duty to improve electricity services nationwide,” said Engineer Chikoyo.

The inspection was part of the Government’s responsibility to monitor the implementation of development projects. During the visit, Commissioner Luoga toured key substations at Ubungo I, Mabibo, Kinyerezi, and Gongo la Mboto.

At these sites, the installation of high-capacity transformers is progressing well, marking a significant step toward strengthening Dar es Salaam’s electricity distribution infrastructure.
