The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has decided to maintain the Central Bank Rate (CBR) at 5.75 percent for the second quarter of 2026. This was announced today, April 2, 2026, at the BoT sub-headquarters in Dar es Salaam by the Deputy Governor in charge of Economic and Financial Policies, Dr. Yamungu Kayandabila, on behalf of the MPC Chairperson, who is also the BoT Governor, Mr. Emmanuel Tutuba. Dr. Kayandabila informed stakeholders in the financial sector and members of the media that the decision was reached during the MPC meeting held on April 1, 2026, which assessed the performance of the economy. He stated that the decision aims to support economic growth while keeping inflation within the target range of 3–5 percent, with bank lending rates expected to remain affordable in the country.

Cooperation between the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and taxpayers has been credited for enabling the authority to set a new record by collecting TZS 9.31 trillion in the third quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, equivalent to 106.4 percent of its target of TZS 8.75 trillion. According to a statement issued by the TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, on April 1, 2026, the authority collected TZS 3.58 trillion in March alone, representing 107.6 percent of the monthly target of TZS 3.32 trillion. The statement further noted that the third-quarter collections reflect a growth of 23.6 percent compared to TZS 7.53 trillion collected during the same period in the 2024/25 financial year. It added that the strong performance in March has enabled TRA to set new records in domestic revenue collection. Prime Minister, Mwigulu Nchemba, has stated that the government will continue to oversee the availability of petroleum products to ensure prices remain affordable, despite ongoing regional and global security challenges—including those in the Middle East—that have contributed to rising fuel prices in the country. “We have observed that prices have started to increase.
