TEACHERS ARE THE PILLARS OF DEVELOPMENT – PRIME MINISTER MAJALIWA

📌 Says teachers are the pride of the nation and the source of innovation and creativity

📌 Dr. Biteko says teaching is the only profession that shapes a person to be greater than the profession itself

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has said that teachers are the backbone of any nation’s development since they provide the human resources with education, which is the most important asset for a country.

He stated that academic, social, and economic achievements stem from the efforts of teachers because teachers are the pride of families, communities, and the nation. Through their hands, Tanzanian youth are equipped with knowledge, skills, and patriotic values.

He made these remarks on October 3, 2025, during the commemoration of World Teachers’ Day, which at the district level was celebrated in Bukombe, Geita Region, at Ushirombo Secondary School grounds.

“Every step of social and economic progress begins in the classroom through the dedication and knowledge of teachers. Without teachers, there are no professions, no future leaders, and no strong nation. Teachers are the source of innovation and creativity for the new generation,” said Majaliwa.

He emphasized that, recognizing the importance of the teaching profession, the Sixth-Phase Government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has continued to improve the teaching sector by upgrading teachers’ ranks and strengthening training opportunities.

He added that to address the shortage of teachers in the country, the government continues to value and invest in the teaching profession by recruiting new teachers every year.

Additionally, Majaliwa directed the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI) and the President’s Office – Public Service Management to balance teacher deployment within regions to ensure every school has adequate teachers, so that Tanzanian children receive quality education.

“The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, in collaboration with Teacher Training Colleges and the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE), should strengthen professional and continuous training for teachers so they can cope with technological changes and today’s global demands,” Majaliwa stated.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, said the teaching profession is unique because it shapes a person to become better than even the profession itself. Teachers dedicate their time and energy to mold individuals into good husbands, wives, or even responsible parents.

“The teaching profession turns a person into a good citizen and, above all, into a diligent worker, servant, and productive contributor to the nation throughout life. We believe this profession is a form of ‘second creation’ after one’s birth by their parents — the continuation of creation here on earth is done by teachers,” Dr. Biteko emphasized.

He further noted that teachers give life direction to every individual, and whenever you see a civilized society, you don’t need to wonder about its foundation — it is always the teacher.

On her part, Prof. Caroline Nombo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, said that the Sixth-Phase Government has continued to implement initiatives that enable teachers to work effectively and deliver positive results, including the construction of school infrastructure to enhance both teaching and learning.

She added: “The Government values the efforts made by teachers because they remain the foundation of success. Each one of us has passed through the hands of teachers. We thank all teachers who devote their energy and knowledge to empower Tanzanians.”
