By Mustapha Seifdine, Tanga
Pupils from Kazita Primary School in Muheza District, Tanga Region, led by their teacher, Jao Kalesi, popularly known as Mwalimu Pawa, conducted a practical study tour at the Amboni Caves in Tanga—one of Tanzania’s key tourist attractions that showcases cultural heritage and the history of the independence struggle.
The aim of the tour was to provide students with hands-on learning about history, cultural heritage, archeological aspects, as well as conservation, tourism, and environmental protection.
Senior Assistant Commissioner for Tourism Services and Marketing at NCAA, Mariam Kobelo, thanked the teachers and students of Kazita School for their efforts in promoting conservation education for present and future generations. She urged the pupils to be good ambassadors of the Amboni Caves.
Commissioner Kobelo also commended Mwalimu Kalesi for his creativity in using songs and music—particularly the popular hit “Pawa” by artist Mbosso—as a teaching tool to inspire and motivate students to learn practically and with enthusiasm.
During the visit, Mwalimu Kalesi pledged to continue working with fellow teachers to promote the Amboni Caves and use them as a practical classroom for learners.
Second-Level Conservation Officer and Head of Amboni Caves, Ramadhan Rashid, reported that in the 2024/2025 financial year, the Amboni Caves received 19,743 visitors and generated over TSh 40 million, demonstrating the significant contribution of the caves to national development through tourism.
One of the pupils, Juma Omari Mchevu, speaking on behalf of his peers, thanked NCAA for the opportunity to visit the caves and encouraged parents to take their children there for practical learning experiences.
The Amboni Caves in Tanga are under the management of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), which continues to improve tourism infrastructure to attract more visitors.
