SEQUIP PROJECT TO EMPOWER THE GIRL CHILD IN DAR ES SALAAM AND RUVUMA.
The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, through the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP), has completed the construction of various infrastructures in new girls’ secondary schools in Dar es Salaam and Ruvuma regions.
In line with the government’s commitment to improving the education sector by investing in the construction and rehabilitation of school and college infrastructures, the project also focuses on strengthening teachers’ capacity through continuous professional development under the Safe Secondary Schools component of SEQUIP.
To achieve its goal of transforming the education sector, the government, in collaboration with the World Bank, is implementing the SEQUIP project worth USD 500 million (approximately TZS 1.2 trillion) over a five-year period.
Since its inception in the 2021/2022 financial year, the project has facilitated the construction of new secondary schools, major infrastructure upgrades, and capacity-building training for more than science teachers, school quality controllers, regional education officers, council quality assurance officers, as well as ICT subject teachers in secondary schools.
Dar es Salaam and Ruvuma regions have successfully implemented school infrastructure projects, making them key regions in empowering the girl child, strengthening her academic capabilities, and enabling her to pursue her dreams.
In Dar es Salaam, the government has completed the construction of the Dar es Salaam Girls’ Secondary School at a cost of over TZS 4.45 billion, while in Ruvuma, an equal amount has been invested to complete the construction of the new Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Girls’ Secondary School.
