CITIZENS URGED TO PROTECT EDUCATION INFRASTRUCTURE IN IRINGA – RC KHERI.
Recognizing the efforts made by the government, the Regional Commissioner of Iringa, Hon. Kheri James, has urged residents of the region to safeguard and maintain the education infrastructure established in the area. This, he emphasized, will ensure long-term use and help the region achieve its goal of benefiting society and the nation through education.
He made the appeal while highlighting the progress made in constructing education infrastructure through the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP).
Hon. Kheri stated that during the five-year implementation of the CCM Party manifesto (2020–2025), Iringa Region received a total of TZS 21,017,700,420 for secondary school infrastructure development.
The funds were allocated for the construction of new secondary schools and various facilities. Among the developments are new ward secondary schools, the Lugalo Regional Girls’ School, Mafinga Vocational School, dormitories, classrooms, teachers’ houses, and toilet facilities.
“The government has built 24 new schools. Previously, many students had to walk long distances to access secondary education, which posed safety risks, especially for girls. Some students even dropped out of school. Now, these new schools built in nearby areas have provided an opportunity for students to continue their education,” said Hon. Kheri.
He further noted that 44 dormitories have been built in Iringa Region to provide accommodation for both male and female students. Additionally, 11 two-in-one teachers’ houses have been constructed.
“The government has also supplied teaching and learning materials for both primary and secondary schools, recruited teachers, and trained them in modern teaching methods using ICT. It has also provided laboratory equipment, ICT facilities for secondary schools, and special needs learning resources,” stressed RC Kheri.
He reiterated that the objectives of the Sixth-Phase Government include increasing access to secondary education, creating a safe learning environment for girls in secondary schools, and ensuring that all students who enroll in secondary school complete their education cycle.
